About Namma Arcot Road

Namma Arcot Road was born in the minds of Binita and Gargi who felt that events such as literary events, book readings, talks, heritage walks, art, theatre and music needed to become a regular feature on Arcot Road.

To sound off their idea of making Arcot Road a happening place, Binita and Gargi met with Sashi Nair and Vincent D’Sousa,  two of the coordinators of Madras Day/Week. With their support and encouragement, an informal group comprising like-minded people from the Arcot Road neighborhood met on Aug. 28, 2010. The meeting generated a lot of enthusiasm and resulted in the formation of a core group of volunteers to set the ball rolling. Core volunteers – Rashmi, Rani, Madhu, Jeeva, Gargi and Binita –  kept the momentum going  with phone calls, emails and meetings, discussing the what, how, when, who and where.

Thus was born – ‘Namma Arcot Road’ (Happenings around Arcot Road).

Over the past few months many volunteers and new members Lakshmi, Namitha, Radhika and Radha have contributed to making Namma Arcot Road events a big success.
